Graphic Design

Visual identity for a startup church near Austin’s University of Texas campus. It entailed a logo design and supporting identity system to establish and bring awareness to the church’s beginning, growing culture, and community positioning.

TASK

Moontower hired me to create a versatile logo and visual identity package for the church. The design will work for signs, print materials, and online use, fostering community pride. We aimed to establish a clear brand identity that reflects the church’s modern role as a community partner while honoring its history and vision.

SOLUTION

A new church is engaged in various activities, including community service, charitable giving, and local outreach. To establish a relevant and consistent brand image that reflects the entire organization, we drew inspiration from the local moontowers. These towers were historically designed as beacons of light for the city at night.

The deliverables create a youthful and tribal feel with fresh and simple shapes. I strategically incorporate active, linear elements to establish a modern aesthetic. Bold and energetic color palettes further elevate the design, while lifestyle imagery enhances the overall impact.

The graphical elements of the system — distinctive typography, dynamic lines, and bold iconography form the letter "M" in the shape of a Moontower.

RESULTS

The new identity system features a warm, natural aesthetic that fosters a sense of originality and optimism. The brand is revitalized with angled lines, a contemporary font, and an authentic color palette. This identity effectively balances the organization’s emerging reputation for amplifying individual perspectives while honoring traditional voices within the community.

PROCESS

I started by creating a stylescape to establish a clear vision and ensure alignment for the overall aesthetic of the church. After that, I moved on to sketching on paper and eventually transitioned to digital design. I drew hundreds of options and refined my work until I produced a final sketch in Illustrator with balanced lines. I developed supporting graphics, signage, wayfinding elements, and brand assets using the logo architecture.

IMPACT

“A referral from another Church, Jaret, exceeded our expectations of getting our church plant up and going with branding and launch materials. Coming from a corporate marketing background, I was blown away by his work’s value, quality, and timelines. We will, without hesitation, engage with Jaret on upcoming projects. I highly recommend his services!”
