TASK
I was responsible for providing consultation and design on a renovation project. The objective was to revamp a specific area in the children’s wing of the church, using the existing wood patterns and style from previous interior designs. This project included updating adjacent walls, signage, and surrounding elements. It was necessary to develop relevant concepts and solutions for this space to bring to life the client’s vision and messaging.
The project aimed to embody the church’s philosophy of being loved and loving others. It was a shared space designed to appeal to all ages, creating a warm and welcoming environment. We aim to help people of all ages feel safe, welcome, and part of a community, fostering discipleship relationships. The project’s tone should exude an overall sense of joy and belonging.

SOLUTION
The success of this project hinged on typography, scale, and timing. Considering the word “LOVE” would hold enduring visual significance, the typographic solution needed to command attention without overwhelming the space. Our creation strikes a delicate balance between subtlety and strength, aiming to inspire viewers to expand their understanding of love and remember its true meaning. The installation’s message and design are supported by contrasting wooden elements. These elements use negative space to complement and engage users from different perspectives.
RESULTS
The extensive wood installation and overall statement resulted in a significant transformation, infusing renewed activity and energy into the space. The comprehensive redesign, photography, and brand messaging revitalized the area, changing it from ‘lifeless’ to a distinctive sacred space. Guests and members are greeted with an iconic environment to relax, serve, and socialize, fostering a sense of optimism and hope for the church’s future and the community it serves.
PROCESS
We started by planning and sketching together to space out the letters in LOVE. Working closely with the facility team was crucial for the project’s success. Although I had a clear vision, it was important for someone to bring it to life. The leading installer and carpenter faced some unexpected issues, but we solved them and improved the design. We kept in touch throughout the different stages, and I visited weekly to oversee the progress. The final result exceeded my expectations.
