Visual identity for Enseo’s HITEC party, an annual event for conference attendees of the industry’s largest hospitality conference.

HITEC (Hospitality Industry Technology Exposition and Conference) returned to Toronto in 2017 for its 46th edition. This three-day exhibition features curated installations, along with a series of events, thought-leadership talks, and workshops. All of these activities highlight cutting-edge technology, innovation, creativity, and research from exhibitors around the world.

TASK

Design a visual identity and asset package for the company’s premier cocktail party, incorporating elements from classic rock music and the music venue aesthetic. The design should be adaptable for signage, print materials, and digital media, reflecting Enseo’s dynamic brand within the everyday street scene.

SOLUTION

This year, the Marketing Team and I adopted a fresh approach by creating graphics that celebrate the music history and creative spirit of the host city. We designed these graphics in the shape of a guitar pick to pay tribute to classic rock band performances, making them perfect for shirts. To add an authentic and energetic touch, we incorporated a custom font and hand-drawn details. Additionally, we developed a simpler version for smaller items, such as stickers, badges, and tattoos.

Rather than relying on typical party imagery, we drew on strategic insights to guide our design choices, aiming to convey strength and confidence while remaining approachable. I opted for custom lettering featuring rough edges and unconventional letterforms, a design element not commonly found in the technology industry. This design choice effectively communicates the brand’s strong commitment to supporting innovation and individuality.

RESULTS

The visual identity captures an alternative, grunge-like aesthetic that radiates boldness and vitality. This popular occasion inspired a humble yet authentic shirt campaign. Attendees could purchase apparel to raise money for a select local charity. Special VIP gifts were sent out after the event with a thank-you note and limited-edition swag.

The vibe at the event was incredible, buzzing with energy. People were singing and chatting, creating an entertaining atmosphere—friends and guests rocked late into the evening, making for an unforgettable night.

PROCESS

To start the project, I explored the city's local music scene to understand its unique styles. With this insight, I gathered inspiration and sketched initial ideas. After refining my drafts and incorporating feedback, I polished the design until it captured the brand's essence, resulting in a striking graphic that reflected its edgy energy and boldness.
