Identity refresh, signage update, and custom typeface for the main church campus in Austin, Texas.

Logo redesign for the growing church preserves and reinforces its simplicity, growing culture, and local lifestyle brand.

TASK

The pastor approved my pitch for a logo refresh. I desperately wanted to resolve elements since I initially crafted the original logo. The hand-drawn style felt outdated and incomplete. While preserving the unique tattoo-like foundation, the goal was to evolve the logo to mirror the church’s matured and established presence within the local community. They deserved and needed a symbol to reflect their growth.

The goal was to address fundamental design flaws in the original hand-drawn logo while maintaining its integrity and brand equity. The original logo launched a community identity, one unique and organic like the city of Austin itself.

SOLUTION

Changing the iconic logo entirely (designed in 2016) was not an option, so the refreshed identity would have to help make a mark everyone was familiar with feel new and exciting again.

The new logo enhances Restore’s distinctive personality and the collaborative connection between its ethos and its city. The refined circular formation preserves the integrity of the O.G. symbol. It also evolves with our progressive culture, revealing our journey together.

RESULTS

The result is unmistakably ‘Restore Austin’, a bold, quirky, and friendly symbol reflecting an accessible and inclusive brand. The unconventional arrangement of typography and form creates a modern visual identity, highlighting Restore Austin’s authentic approach to city restoration.

PROCESS

I began by sketching on paper and then transitioned to digital. The initial steps included tracing the original, identifying areas for improvement, and creating a final sketch in Illustrator with balanced lines and consistent line weight. The logo architecture and system were then used to develop supporting graphics, signage, wayfinding, and brand assets.

IMPACT

“Jaret led our church through the entire branding process. He did everything from creating our logo to picking our fonts while helping us find and execute our brand identity. He immersed himself in our church’s culture and our city’s culture and came up with a brand that has served us beautifully… New people who come to Restore always say, "Who did your logo and branding? It’s incredible!” We are indebted to Jaret’s artistry and leadership."
